¿ä¾à2 Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) impacted pedestrian activities on commercial streets and reshaped perceptions of physical environments
and behavior. This study compares surveys conducted in commercial areas before (2020) and after (2023) COVID-19 restrictions to identify
factors affecting pedestrian activity and satisfaction with streets based on street type. Findings reveal that physical environments significantly
influence pedestrian satisfaction. Specifically, essential activities, such as walking and waiting, and optional activities, like shopping and
dining, mediate the relationship between physical environments and street satisfaction. Pedestrian-only streets saw increased density and
satisfaction, reflecting the public¡¯s desire for outdoor activities post-restriction. Although community facilities, such as benches, support social
activities and safety measures, like CCTVs and lighting, enhance safety by aiding space recognition and visibility at night, these features do
not directly affect street satisfaction. Ultimately, to promote pedestrian activities and revitalize commercial streets post-COVID-19,
infrastructure for both essential and optional activities should be maintained or expanded.
