The number of reinforced concrete(RC) heritage structures in Korea has been steadily increasing, with many nowapproaching the end of their intended service life. This trend has heightened interest in the preservation and repair of RCheritage. However, limited experience and inadequate institutional frameworks have resulted in insufficient responses, underscoring the urgent need for a dedicated system to address the preservation and repair of RC structures. Korea's currentheritage preservation and repair system, traditionally focused on wooden architecture, faces challenges when applied to modernstructures like RC buildings. Furthermore, modern heritage structures, including RC buildings, require an emphasis on adaptivereuse. Since reuse often conflicts with preservation, balancing these two priorities is essential. Therefore, establishing newregulatory frameworks and a systematic approach for the preservation and repair of RC heritage structures is crucial, demanding careful consideration and thorough evaluation. This study proposes a process to address these needs effectively. Tothis end, we examined Japan's progress in developing RC preservation systems and reviewed notable cases of preservationand repair to devise a process suitable for the Korean context. This proposed process combines strategies for incorporatingrepair experiences specific to RC structures, balancing preservation with adaptive reuse, and addressing additional critical factorsessential for modern architectural heritage. These components were synthesized into a structured, visualized process expectedto serve as a valuable foundation for the future preservation and repair of RC heritage structures and modern architecturalheritage in general. |
