This study examines the feasibility of using existing cores in the vertical extension remodeling of aged apartments. It evaluates key factors from legal, engineering, and construction perspectives. To assess feasibility, a flat-type apartment was analyzed with and without the existing core. In terms of spatial planning, the sizes of shared areas and building areas were compared. From a structural perspective, the amount of demolished and newly constructed load-bearing walls was quantitatively analyzed, supplemented by qualitative verification through expert review. For construction, key remodeling elements were assessed based on expert validation. The results indicate that from a spatial planning perspective, utilizing existing cores improves spatial efficiency and reduces building area. From an engineering standpoint, it minimizes the demolition and reconstruction of load-bearing walls. In terms of construction, important considerations include extending the core’s lower structure and its connection to the underground parking lot. While incorporating existing cores in apartment remodeling presents both benefits and challenges, it offers a viable approach to enhancing spatial efficiency and engineering stability with careful planning and consideration. |
