Urban areas of Korea have a high residential density. Thus, all buildings constructed require underground parking lots. These underground parking lots are enclosed spaces. They are mostly built as duplexes. Ventilation system is essential to remove pollutants generated from cars using underground parking lots. Although the frequency of fire occurrences is low for parked vehicles, smoke control systems have recently been applied to allow firefighters to enter to prevent the spread and extinguish fires that might occur in underground parking lots. This study was carried out to evaluate smoke control performance according to supply fan, main exhaust fan, and induction fan installed for smoke control in an underground parking lot. Results confirmed that optimal smoke control performance was kept under the condition that the supply fan and main exhaust fans operated simultaneously with the induction fan. |
