¿ä¾à2 (Background and Purpose) With spatial pluralization, architecture takes the form of a multidimensional structure. A non-independent, complementary, and organic architectural pattern is used as a concrete and practical means to secure continuous flow. This study aims to provide preliminary data on the Sejima Kazuyo space by analyzing its organic characteristics to identify how the fundamental concepts of organic architecture are adequately applied in contemporary society, which is necessary for establishing an effective spatial structure. (Method) This study analyzed theoretical concepts and presented keywords based on previous studies on organisms and organic architecture. In this regard, this study examines the organic characteristics and effects of the Sejima space by analyzing previous studies on how to deal with Sejima¡¯s spatial structure to establish relationships between the structural characteristics, features, and concepts of organic architecture. The analytical results objectively verified the organic characteristics of the Sejima space based on relevant cases. The scope of the case analysis covered architectural works with the starkest organic characteristics that Sejima performed over a 20-year period. (Results) The organic characteristics of the Sejima space were divided into three factors?namely, spatial flexibility, generative relations, and structural variability?based on the analysis conducted above. Organisms with spatial structure patterns can be understood and applied based on the effects of their detailed attributes. Spatial flexibility eliminates stereotypical thinking and provides various functions and experiences to prove its effectiveness. This can be interpreted in the context in which thinking within different spaces formed by a user¡¯s thinking is applied and reflected. A generative relationship is one established through associations with multiple elements. This is embodied in an interactive structure of interconnected internal and external Sejima spaces. Structural variability refers to the tendency of a material to change under certain conditions. One of its characteristics is that it views architecture as an evolving organic structure. (Conclusions) In the contemporary age, there has been a gradually growing demand for organic architecture to integrate each element of multiple architectural parts into a single one and consider it as a whole. Considering this, this study analyzed the organic characteristics of the Sejima space. It is anticipated that this research will provide a basis for understanding the organic characteristics that involve the integration of spatial parts and applying them to indefinite space in the contemporary age.
