본 연구는 체코 프라하의 바바 주택전시회 단지를 대상으로 근대 중산층 주거모델로서의 주거사적 의의를 조명하고자 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 신주거와 체코 기능주의의 역사적 배경과 함께 ‘주거해방’에 대한 이론적 고찰을 진행하였으며, 구체적으로 총 25호의 단독주택 사례에 대해 평면 유형 및 공간구성의 특성, 그리고 외관 및 건축디자인의 특성을 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 평면구성에 있어서 공적 공간과 사적 공간을 명확히 구분하였고, 개인공간에서의 사생활을 충분히 보장하는 계획이 이루어졌다. 또한 공동생활공간은 다양한 구성을 보이면서 개방적 특성이 많이 나타났다. 둘째, 테라스, 옥상정원, 발코니 등 내, 외부의 중간적 성격의 공간을 통해 외부공간의 공기와 햇빛을 충분히 향유할 수 있도록 하였으며, 흥미롭고 매력적인 주거를 제공하였다. 셋째, 건물의 형태는 장방형, 정방형의 박스형을 기본으로 하여 즉물적이고 단순한 형태를 보이면서도 매스를 도려내거나 추가함으로서 변화를 부여하였다. 평면, 3차원의 공간, 그리고 외부의 조형이 서로 연동하는 특성은 수준 높은 건축적 미학과 공간의 질을 담보하였다. 넷째, 파사드의 디자인에는 가볍고 명쾌한 이미지의 근대 주거건축의 미학적 특성이 반영되었다. 벽체를 대체하는 가로로 긴 넓은 창은 시야를 넓혀주고, 과거의 폐쇄적인 내부공간으로부터 탈피한 혁신성을 보여주었다.
바바 주거단지는 당시 유행하였던 국제주의 건축의 이상을 따르되, 각각의 대상들에 대해서는 개별적으로 접근한 사례로서 후일의 주거수준 향상을 예견한 미래지향적이고 선구적인 모델을 보여주었다. 또한 건축 디자인에 있어서 근대 미학의 이상을 잘 표현하였다. |

The purpose of this study is to reveal the innovative concept of the Baba Housing Exhibition Estate in Prague, Czech Republic, presented as a modern middle class housing, and to discuss its significance in housing history. Therefore, in this study, the historical background of ‘Neues Bauen’ and International style was reviewed, and the theory of ‘Liberation of Housing’ was explored as a argument about modern housing. In addition, the status of czech modernism and functionalism was examined, and the activities of Czechoslovak Werkbund were investigated. Especially, for 25 detached houses in BaBa Housing Estate, the type of floor plan, characteristics of spatial composition, and characteristics of exterior and architectural design were analyzed. As a conclusion, the BaBa Housing Estate followed the ideals of the international style that was popular at the time, but approached each object individually and achieved the architectural quality according to varied purpose. Through this, it suggested a future-oriented and pioneering model when predicting the improvement of housing standards. As well as it expressed the ideal of modern aesthetics in architectural appearance. |
