(Background and Purpose) Due to the global spread of COVID-19, in 2020 the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic at the highest stage. Countries around the world banned or restricted entry by foreigners and the movement of their own citizens to prevent the spread of the virus, and the tourism industry was greatly affected. COVID-19 not only reduced tourism demand but also affected people's tourism patterns, with short-distance travel being preferred over long-distance travel, and domestic travel over international travel. In particular, ¡°cleanliness¡± became the top priority when deciding on tourist destinations and accommodation, and people preferred tourism activities that considered social distancing. In addition, with the introduction of non-face-to-face technology and VR/AR in the tourism sector, the digital transformation of the tourism industry is expected to accelerate. Due to the spread of COVID-19, services based on artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly expanding in hotels. Accordingly, this paper proposes an AI hotel spatial design to be implemented in the post-COVID-19 era by substituting specific strategies that should be implemented in hotels after COVID-19 due to the characteristics of various spaces. (Method) In this study, AI hotel spatial design was examined through case studies of hotels using AI technology. Based on data collected through news, newspapers, advertisements, and so on, domestic and overseas hotels that combine AI technology with a certain representativeness and hotel spatial design were selected as examples. (Results) The analysis revealed that AI is used for face-to-face services in hotels, where human services are important. Advances in AI have enabled these technologies to handle basic customer interactions. Second, the introduction of AI services can improve management efficiency and productivity. AI services can save human resources and energy and increase management efficiency by scientifically managing hotel rooms, elevators, and public spaces. Third, sensory stimulation and emotional experiences are possible. In traditional hotel spaces, the population movement rate is too high and problems such as emotionalization with service staff often occur; however, AI can reduce work mistakes. AI can obtain information about guests, understand their language, provide new sensory stimulation and emotional experiences, overcome the limitations of AI services, and effectively improve service quality. (Conclusions) The use and development of AI technology for hotel spatial design should not simply replace manpower using machines, but should realize the in-depth convergence and development of ¡°AI + hotel spatial design,¡± and future researchers should discuss this aspect. Personally, I hope to do more in-depth research on this topic. |
