(Background and Purpose) The modern era is dominated by the competition between cities and architecture. As the central system has transformed into a local-centered system, urban and architectural spaces have become core cultural resources of local areas. Globalization has brought development to many developing countries, but it also poses a threat to regional cultural diversity and individuality due to the diffusion of uniform thinking, values, and lifestyles. Among the numerous buildings in the city, museums serve as public spaces that introduce the region's history and culture to visitors, creating a sense of community belonging and identity. Therefore, museums that utilize regional historical and cultural resources can not only conduct cultural education in the region but also create regional brand value, playing an important role in the development of the tourism industry. Considering this, this study aims to analyze small and medium-sized museum architecture cases in China's Pearl River Delta region based on the exploration and analysis of the factors that contribute to the formation of a sense of place, as well as to expound on their characteristics. (Method) The natural foundation of China's Pearl River Delta region is mainly composed of numerous lakes and rivers and is influenced by the Wu-Yue culture that integrates both Eastern and Western cultures. Although it is the largest economic zone in China, the regional development imbalance is still very prominent from a geographical perspective. The research methodology first examined the inherent natural and cultural environment of the Pearl River Delta region, then selected small and medium-sized museum buildings that has been reflected the region's characteristics, and observed the characteristics of experiential spaces. Next, the expression characteristics of the museum were analyzed by examining the interconnection method between the exterior of the architecture, the interior exhibition space, and the content, making it more familiar to the local culture and history. (Results) Observing the commonalities in the examples, chinese lingnan cultural symbols and materials were reinterpreted and utilized in a modern way. In addition, the exhibition encouraged the audience to imagine and interpret history through storytelling and design, while attempting to utilize unique local historical and cultural resources. (Conclusions) The future regional museum is a place to witness the flow of time and history of the community, and will be a core cultural resource in the city that provides new knowledge, experience, and even rest away from daily life. In response to the uniformity of architectural culture, which is a trend not only in China but also around the world in a modern society where traditional cultures and regional uniqueness are disappearing, this study is hoped to provide a discursive basis for alternative that can be invited as a place experience while preserving cultural diversity. |
