The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of the safe and secure village program in the urbanregeneration new deal project and to draw implications for establishing a safe environment in deteriorated residential areas. Thisstudy explored the program¡¯s plan and implementation of the safety facilities for pedestrian traffic, crime prevention, and fire atGamcho Village. Furthermore, residents were surveyed to analyze their satisfaction for the project and an in-depth interviewwith interested parties were conducted to scrutinize issues and to find solutions. The survey found that residents were generallysatisfied with the installed safety facilities and their effectiveness towards the safety and security of the village were highlyevaluated. The in-depth interview revealed that some projects were not implemented because of the self-interests of theresidents. To promote the new deal project, a comprehensive systematic evaluation between inter-related departments and astrategy to achieve agreement amongst residents are required. |
