Old Korean Legation is the first diplomatic building designated in Washington DC United States by Treaty of Peace, Amity, Commerce and Navigation, United States-Korea Treaty of 1882. It was built in 1877 with French Second Empire House style in exterior, popular style at that time, and Moorish style furniture and interior and exterior ornament affected by Aesthetic Movement. Old Korean Legation was leased for two years and purchased in 1891 and became the center of the activities for Chosen independence. Also by analogizing the life style of Old Korean Legation resident officers it was thought that they provocatively adopted Western life style on top of the life style of chosen which is historically meaningful£®Old korean Legation now is significant cultural place that help Korean children and younger generations born in the United States have their clear identify and help general public understand korean culture. |
