Architecture is made by the needs of society. Therefore, the architecture reflects the various values demanded by the society, and various societal demands for the architecture occur according to the age and regional trends. Buildings that adequately meet these needs can create greater value than visible economic benefits. Modern architecture is caused by the logic of capitalist economy, which causes various problems. Architectural attempts to solve this problem and to realize public value are mostly ended in failure in the structure of capitalism. By analyzing regional trends and accurately reading the social needs of the area's architecture, however, buildings create not only economic value but also public value. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that make the value and social demand reflected in architecture in the modern society expressed as capitalism and late industrial society. In particular, This study will analyze the expression of contemporary architecture that reflects regional trends by looking at the works of architects who have won the Prize of Architects awarded to architects who made important contributions to mankind and the environment through architecture, discuss how modern architecture can realize public values in capitalist society. |
