본 연구는 이미지와 VR이라는 두 개의 서로 다른 실험도구를 비교하여 주거절도 관련 연구 방법으로서 VR이 갖는 이점과 가능성을 살펴보기 위해 수행되었다. 교외의 전형적인 단독주택 블록 내에서 적절한 범행 대상을 찾고 있는 절도범이라는 가상의 상황을 설정하여 피실험자들이 어떠한 건축계획요소를 의사결정의 단서로 사용하는지를 실험하였다. 이미지와 VR 실험결과를 비교한 결과, 두 실험 결과 사이에 차이를 존재하며 건물의 침입용이성 관련 변수에 대해서는 동일한 결과를 얻은 반면, 발각위험성 관련 변수에 대해서는 VR 실험을 통해서만 유의미한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 VR 실험에서는 피실험자들이 보다 구체적인 판단에 근거한 의사결정을 내리고 다양한 환경조건을 종합적으로 고려한다는 점을 밝힐 수 있었다. 이를 통해, VR이 주거절도의 범행 대상 선정을 조사하기 위한 실험도구로서 갖는 이점을 확인하였고, 다양한 환경요소로 구성된 공간 내에서의 피실험자의 의사결정을 조사하는 환경행태학 관련 연구분야의 새로운 실험도구로서 VR이 갖는 가능성도 살펴볼 수 있었다. |

This study was conducted to examine the advantages and possibilities of VR as a research method for residential burglary-related studies by
comparing two different experimental tools, image and VR. A hypothetical situation of a motivated burglar looking for an appropriate
criminal target within a typical detached house block in the suburbs was set up to investigate which architectural design variables the
participants used as clues for decision-making. As a result of comparing the image and VR, there was a meaningful difference between the
two test results. The same results were obtained from the variables related to the ease of intrusion, while variables related to the risk of
detection were only significant in the VR experiment. In addition, it was revealed that the participants made decisions based on more specific
judgments and comprehensively considered various environmental conditions in the VR experiment. This confirmed the advantages of VR as
an experimental tool for investigating the residential burglars’ target selection. Also, VR is expected to be utilized as a new experimental
tool, especially in the field of environmental behavior that investigates human behavior in a specific space with various environmental
variables. |
