¿ä¾à2 Recently, discussions to build the independence movement memorial halls in each city in Korea are actively progressing, but there is little research on the external space of the memorial hall. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to first identify the contents of the external space of the independence movement memorial hall, and to derive the main characteristics in the configuration of the external space to provide practical help in planning. To this end, the study was conducted in three stages. In the first step, three representative Anseong March 1st Movement Memorial Halls, Jeam-ri March 1st Movement Memorial Hall, and Jeju Anti-Japanese Memorial Hall were selected. In the second step, the external space of the independence movement memorial hall was newly classified by function into six categories: Memorial, Commemorative, Activity, Rest, Entry, and Parking spaces, then the three selected Memorial Halls were systematically analyzed. In the third step, a detailed analysis was conducted on the configuration, focusing on the interrelationships between the external spaces, that were considered in terms of the hierarchy, circulation, and connectivity of the external spaces. As a result, the memorial space should have the largest hierarchy in the external space, and the commemorative space needs to be created in a location where symbolism can be well represented. The activity space should accommodate various experiential exhibition activities of the memorial hall, and the entry space and parking space should take the access path of pedestrians and vehicles into account. In addition, for visitors to easily access the various and wide external spaces of the memorial hall, the pedestrian road should have a circulation system, and the connectivity between the external space and the exhibition space of the memorial hall as well as the connectivity between each external spaces must be strengthened.
