Purpose : Commercial signboards are everywhere in city. It would have influence on our urban environment as a media carrying information to anyone on a street. The signboards facing with the street competes each other in order to catch eyes of people in the street. Harder competition goes, bigger and more the signboards go. It drive the urban street disordered. This study aims to seek an alternative way to compose a signboard in order to ease the chaos of urban street. Method : Outdoor signboards are assumed as a sort of media for communication. They are attached on the wall of buildings and made of character and visual image, which are two kinds of different sign carrying information, So this study tries to figure out the correlation of signboards and building walls and analyze the character and visual images of signboard in a view of recognizing signs. Result : Less character and more visual images for outdoor signboards could minimize the effort to recognize the information from the signboards to viewers, because they have different process each other and visual image have simpler one to deliver information about their reference. It would help reduce the stress from the chaotic mass of information on urban street. |
