The survey and analysis was conducted on 10 public libraries in Tokyo Metropolis since 2000 for the purpose of identifying the types and characteristics of the reading area and its Layout Composition. For this purpose, the analysis framework of Area, Room, and Node was established and the connection relationship was identified, and the zoning and browsing space by the quiet and active concept were analyzed through drawings. This study has its significance as a basic data survey of future studies. The results of the survey analysis are as follows. First, after the introduction of the open shelf system in the 1970s, the introduction of digital services from the lending service library and the emergence of large libraries, various cases of space for the provision of information centered on local residents have been shown since 2000. Second, the types of connections of spatial composition by floor were largely divided into five types: Line, Branch, Ring, Network and Star. Third, a number of reference areas were shown in the Quiet Zone, with a tendency to be placed adjacent to the adult areas. The most common cases were the use of the Quiet Zone adult area and the active Zone periodical area. Fourth, the quiet zones were divided into distributed or adjacent layout, and the active zones into independent configurations, distributed layout and none. Fifth, the layout type of adult area browsing space appeared to be four types: inside and outside, side, other areas, and surrounding areas. |
