¿ä¾à2 (Background and Purpose) Coastal Waterfriendly Space means a place created to enable the value and role of the coast so that it can become a leisure space and a tourist destination for nearby residents and visitors to revitalize the region. The planning of Coastal Waterfriendly Space needs to be centered on the human cognitive process in order for visitors to gain comfortable and stable space experience. The purpose of this study is to present the reasons for preference or avoidance in terms of evolutionary human understanding as visitors experience Coastal Waterfriendly Space, and to suggest the method of planning the physical space environment in view of The Prospect-Refuse Theory. (Method) First, to understand the theory of evolutionary human interaction and the spatial role and purpose of Coastal Waterfriendly Space, and sort out the factors that support the activities of visitors in Coastal Waterfriendly Space to shape the planning target. Second, in order to identify the physical space environment favored and avoided by visitors in the Coastal Waterfriendly Space, the theory of evolutionary human response is reconstructed around The Prospect-Refuse Theory. Third, the preferred object, space condition, and perceptual condition of human being are added to present the space condition based on the view and the theory of hiding place, Using this as a framework for analysis, we analyze the case of creating a marine waterfront in Vancouver, Canada. Applying the guidelines for the formation of waterfront and the theory of planning, the marine waterfront planning method based on the view and the theory of shelter is proposed. (Results) Planning Criteria based on The Prospect-Refuse Theory can serve as the basis for setting up planning methods to create a comfortable and stable Coastal Waterfriendly Space. It can be seen that the plan for Coastal Waterfriendly Space must be planned in consideration of the visitor's view environment. (Conclusions) Prospect in Coastal Waterfriendly Space is the right to observe natural elements, man-made objects, and people's lives that can be a target of good results for them. Refuse in Coastal Waterfriendly Space is a boundary that created an environment where visitors could separate spaces under physical and psychological conditions and protect themselves and rely on them in separate spaces. The spatial structure of this boundary can be described as a structure in which visitors can minimize their exposure, have the right to view the preferred target, and have an escape route to predict and respond to the risk situation in advance. So, Research on planning methods based on evolutionary human understanding is needed.
