The rapidly changing modern society is developing through exchanges between various fields. Just as many sciences have developed through connection with other sciences, there has also been much development in architectural field through linkage with other sciences. In particular, various studies have been conducted on arts, sculpture and music in the field of art. However, because the architecture relies heavily on the sense of sight including movement, not the simple sense of perception, it is hard to find any connection with many other sciences. In this respect, the film is easily compared with architecture, because it is an art that includes both time and space and perceives time and space through ¡°movement.¡± Both film and architecture are expressive arts of space, and they create a psychological effect for audiences and users through space. In addition, the imagery experience is already indispensable for experiencing modern architecture because of physical distance and time constraints. Therefore, we would like to find a new visual approach to the architectural space through the film mise-en-scene, which includes both the elements of dynamic movement and the static formative language. Mise-en-scene can be regarded as one of the most similar film theory to the experience of architectural space because it has an imagery characteristic and continuously shows the spatial sense of the screen in one shot. In addition, the cultural art space in contemporary architecture is a space where the culture of the local community and the ideology of the architect are well revealed. Like a film is recognized as one of the artworks, an architectural space built for culture and art looks like a big artwork. Therefore, in this study, we will first conduct the theoretical research on the mise-en-scene, an expression of the space which creates the psychological effect in movies. Next, we will find the peculiarities of the mise-en-scene by analyzing the mise-en-scene directing technique of the Director Stanley Kubrick, who is skilled in the visualization of narrative, and seek for a possibility of new visual approach for those who experience architectural spaces through comparison with culture and art spaces in m architectures. |
