Due to the increase in social participation of women and the change of family composition, children attending childcare facilities are getting younger and they are spending more time in these facilities. Although teachers care and child care programs are important, the space surrounding the children is known to have a great influence on the emotional and physical development. Recently, it has been recognized that the physical education environment is important, but research on the actual space and structure planning of childcare facilities has not been carried out. Therefore, this study focuses on the physical space of childcare facilities and identifies the layout characteristics of the main rooms. This study defined and examined the characteristics of the main rooms and studied 41 childcare facilities in Korea. These cases were first classified into five types and the layout and characteristics of the rooms between the types were examined. The plan of each case was analyzed by Space Syntax and statistics were studied using ANOVA. As a result we identified the typical arrangement of rooms such as the outdoor playground, main entrance, teachers room, corridor, kitchen and utility room. Also by identifying the difference of the layout of the five types, this study provides basic spacial structure data for planning childcare facilities. |
