(Background and Purpose) As an essential part of the industrial sphere, the domestic machinery sector has become a standard of national competitiveness. Even though the domestic machinery industry was seen as small and petty in the past, it has now grown into an essential area as a representative export area of the state based on support and development at a national level. Currently, the domestic machinery industry forms part of a wider industrial infrastructure including small/medium companies and even large companies. Even though its creation of profits is higher than other industrial areas in the professional systematization ? largely due to the limited domestic market in terms of economic potential since 2010 ? it is facing the challenge of developing new products and also specializing in production targeting the world market. In this respect, aggressive promotion is urgently needed to pioneer markets for export industry targeting the global machinery sector based on the productivity basis and the development of industrial products/researches by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, which is the birthplace of research into the Korean machinery industry. The design of the exhibition hall that delivers new experiences to visitors is particularly important, and thus the development of exhibition hall design that is applicable to the differentiated and exhibition program is very important. The objective of this study is therefore to design the exhibition hall in the new machinery sector. (Method) Research into exhibition hall design in the machinery sector revealed the optimum design method to deliver the product development/process in the machinery industry to visitors, and also to maximize the contents confirming the future of machinery industry. By arousing empathy for the concept of exhibition, which could be perceived through the theme of each space based on diverse exhibition media, the representation of exhibition arousing the empathy for and informing the machinery industry was maximized. By creating a narrative of the machinery industry and enabling visitors to experience the products and historical process developed in the industry in phases through many exhibition media, the study applied a program to increase the connectivity of exhibition in order to arouse viewers' empathy. (Results) With regard to exhibition hall design in the machinery industry sector, by presenting the future vision of machinery industry focusing on the factors necessary for exhibition based on the temporal aspect of the machinery industry, an exhibition program to draw visitors' empathy for the new exhibition space could be carried out. In terms of the exhibition program, applying the program to a case study could reveal the result of empathy for new exhibition, which could maximize the delivery aspect of new machinery industry exhibition hall. (Conclusions) The application of exhibition hall through the development of exhibition program for maximizing the empathy for the industrial concept and historicity of machinery industry could arouse the interest in and empathy for the importance of new machinery industry sector among visitors to the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials. As the design of the machinery industry exhibition hall gives hope to the future vision and development of the domestic machinery sector, through the development of new elements, an effect and result of this study is the creation of an exhibition hall design that could fulfill the characteristics of national industrial development. |
