This study aims to provide base data for introducing an official and reliable certification system that determines whether crime prevention through environmental design is being applied appropriately and discriminately at the time of application in the field. The research method is as follows: first, improvement measures through the investigation and comparative analysis of existing regulations, procedures, incentives, and certification cases is derived. Then, an investigation and a comparative analysis is carries out of the assessment methods of certification systems in developed countries regarding crime prevention through environmental design. The following results were obtained: (1) a certification agency should be established in order to secure the public confidence and reliability of assessment procedures, methods, and results of the certification system, and acquisition of the certification should be able to provide business values to enterprises and reliability to consumers; and (2) in order to activate and institute the certification, differentiated incentives compared to the existing certification system should be provided. Most importantly, public confidence should be obtained through legal certification; and (3)Crime Prevention and Environmental Design (CPTED) certification should be a crime risk assessment, evaluation standard, evaluation agency, and crime prevention inspection agency, and it should be differentiated from crime risk assessment and crime prevention application level. |
