The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between boundary and privacy in SANAA's architecture. SANAA's concept of privacy in their architecture stems from their sensitivity toward our time and its psychological diverse reality. In the era of co-existence of consciousness, SANAA studied hierarchy of the spatial system in which one can share spatial values with others while maintaining one's individuality. In their early works, SANAA explored the relationship between privacy and spatial system in domestic spaces of their project. Through recomposition of hierarchy of individual rooms, SANAA examined how to bring the outside inside while at the same time ensuring private conditions for space. However, since the late 1990s, SANAA expands their studies on privacy on various types and scale of buildings through the non-hierarchial composition of a spatial system that generates various relationships to embrace senses of privacy. |
