This study started with the fact that as the hotel industry is developed, it would be difficult for design hotels to have differentiation simply with the designers' design philosophy and concept in the future. This study would examine the changing trend of hotel designs in modern society and suggest a newer design approach through the works of Kerry Hill, a representative of tropical modernism, who is an Australia-born architect, but attracts great attention in Southeast Asia. First, this study described that there are distinct differences in the results of design according to the basic concept, project concept and element concept in design concepts. Second, this study examined the opportunity in which Australia-born Western architect, Kerry Hill came to Asia and his design background and described that in his architecture, there are expression characteristics such as geometry/order, geographical adaptation, connecting and disconnecting of spaces, fusion of materials, circulation of wind/reception of light, and application of traditional architecture. Third, this study analyzed how his expression characteristics were expressed in Asia with the hotels he worked on as examples. As a result of summing up everything, his architecture is a type that focuses on the project concept in which he thought and planned local context and surrounding environment, rather than noticeably revealing the designer's concept. This study would suggest that realizing the hybrid between the east and the west in harmony with nature is a new approach to the above issues. |
