The purpose of this study is to examine the factors of residential satisfaction and characteristics of single-person households on university town in local small-sized city by an analysis of crime data and questionnaire survey. The results of this study are as follows. First, the main type of single-person household was detached or multi-family housing composed of one room less than 33§³. Second, the residents' satisfaction as single-person household was related to space area and number, lighting and ventilation, soundproofing and privacy protection and fear of crime was caused by insufficient facilities for crime prevention, lack of neighborhood relationship, and behavior characteristics such as ratio of unoccupied housing and late time in returning home. Third, the main types of experienced crime victimization were drunken man's noise and burglary and sexual offence and violence had an effect on the women's fear of crime. In conclusion it was thought that the crime prevention measures were the windows and doors design for natural surveillance, the entrance and elevation design for access control, the zoning between residential and commercial area for territoriality reenforcement, and common space planning for activity support. |
