Purpose: A current korean healthcare facility regulation had been established based on 1960s' Japanese regulation. Since then, healthcare services has been improved through healthcare certifications like JCI certification. However, healthcare facilities are designed based on the current regulation and architects' own experience without any additional guidelines. It is important to standardize the korean healthcare facility design guideline to improve facility quality. Especially, needs of emergency department guideline is raised after Mers breakout. This guideline is focused on infection control, circulation separation and patient triage system. Methods: Healthcare facility guidelines from four different countries have been reviewed and modified in order to set up preliminary korean healthcare facility guideline for emergency department. Results: Emergency department is divided into five different areas and associated rooms. Each room is defined with relationship with other rooms, critical dimensions, and associated equipment. Implications: This research will provide basic guideline to architects, physicians and other healthcare stakeholder to design certain levels of emergency department. |
