Of late, museums have a wide range of functions, and are seeking to expand toward a new horizon. Consequently, more uniquely featured and specialized museums, especially various theme museums that focus on children, have been mushrooming. Children's museums are evolving into those that put more emphasis on spectators' active participation than mere passive display and publicity, and educational and cultural contents have become increasingly important. At the turn of the year 2000, South Korea has ushered in a full-fledged aging society. Moreover, it has been racing toward a hyper-aging society. Unlike those in one or two generations ago, a large number of the elderly people are highly educated and want to enjoy their later days more actively and meaningfully. Therefore, making good use of them in the field of education at children's environment museums by providing the effective labor force of highly educated silver generation with a participating role, it will further enrich their senior lives, and thus have a positive effect on the overall social welfare effort. In this study, I am going to examine each role area available for the silver generation in the children's museum, and by analysing the children's environmental museum that has utilized the aged as assistant teachers I'd like to suggest a form of museum with which people in different generations are all satisfied. |
