¿ä¾à2 Children especially who are hospitalized for long periods need to be treated with special care since they are physically not fully mature and psychologically fragile. So in many countries for instance Germany and Japan have over 100 children¡¯s rehabilitation hospitals with special programs regarding education, play, parent advising, daycare and more. However, in Korea there are only one children¡¯s rehabilitation hospitals so little is known about them. The objective of this study is to understand spatial and design characters of children¡¯s rehabilitation hospital that may serve as basic reference in designing such space. Therefore the researchers looked into characteristics of ill children and rehabilitation hospitals environment through literature research. Then case studies on children¡¯s rehabilitation hospitals were carried out in order to find design methods used. As for the results, it was found that relationship with nature such as natural lighting is important, separate spaces for education, and for parents to rest need to be provided. Programs need to be broken down into smaller units and soft warm materials are used for a more home like environment. Moreover, children oriented scale of interiors such as lower ceiling heights, windows and decorative ceilings for children who spend most time in beds were considered.
