One of the most important sustainability issues is to reduce LCC cost and CO2 resulting from construction waste by extending the life of a buildings. The development of flexible housing depending on the change of times and the demand of residents has contributed to the extension of the functional/social life of a buildings. However, the current design method for the down slab drainage system of the wet zone of flexible co-housings has limitations in implementing the flexibility. In general, water usage area (e.g., bathroom and kitchen) is fixed, and partial flexibility is limitedly applied to a dry zone. The purpose of the present study is to examine the flexible availability of a bathroom system in Korea and to suggest a flexible bathroom design for co-housings. The requirements of bathroom flexibility were analyzed through the flexibility standard of the Long-life Housings Certification System in Korea and the actual cases of long-life housings in Japan, and a flexible floor plan was suggested based on the status of technical development and improvement suggestions in Korea. The flexible availability of a wet zone was verified based on the results of this study, and the directions for bathroom system development were discussed. |
