The purpose of this study is to analyze the formation processes of street systems in the old downtown of An-dong (äÌÔÔ) eup-seong(ëéàò). There are many wonderful cultural artifacts in An-dong which has preserved a lot of memories of the past. Understanding the culture of An-dong means understanding that of Korean culture as a whole, and experiencing the spirit of the Orient. At present, An-dong eup-seong and its relics disappeared from An-dong because of its urbanization. The old downtown where eup-seong once stood, played an important part in the growth of An-dong as a administrative center, an economics center, a cultural space. There once were most government offices of the Joseon dynasty(1372~1910) and public buildings there until recently. At present, there are a public facilities and a cultural space, a traditional cultural contents museum. And there are commercial buildings and houses outside those buildings. A process of a growth and characteristics of an urban are closely related to urban street systems; street generation, street expansion, street regeneration, street disappearance, etc. The scope of this study includes a transformation of a street and a lot, a water course, a railroad. So this study examines lot systems and street systems of in the old downtown of An-dong, are the traditional buildings as well as modern-style ones. And this study examines its characteristics and the formation processes of the street. In conclusion, lot systems and street systems played an important part in the growth of the old downtown. Street systems was changed in the late Joseon dynasty and the Japanese colonial period, modern times. In particular it was changed a lot in the Japanese colonial period. This was a time when An-dong eup-seong had been disappeared from the city due to a rapid process of urbanization and a means of transportation had been turned to a train. |
