Buyeo Gudeurae is a representative historical site that is simultaneously a ‘historic site under the law of Korean Cultural Heritage’, ‘historical and cultural environment preservation and promotion district within the ancient cities’, and the buffer zone of the World Heritage sites. The existing villages in Gudeurae has been demolished, which is a part of the restoration plan of the Heritage Site in the 1990s. The present condition of the site hereby remains remnants of the villages. In addition, the site is being occupied as a parking lot for nearby commercial facilities. This article put the major focus on the basic research and conceptual settings as well as the proposal for architectural arrangement. This is based on the Authenticity of the historical context. The basic research involved historical studies, understanding of dispersion status in cultural heritage, and preceding research analysis. The survey also carried out a survey on the site situation including surrounding environment. The Five sets of concepts and tasks were set up for setting the basic direction to the plan. On the basis of the five concepts and tasks, architectural programs and facilities functioning were established. Moreover, the architectural design of contemporary Korean traditional houses was proposed on the arrangement concept of traditional villages. Cadastral Map and Registered Building Data which had been produced in Japanese occupation period were used to plan arrangement building and substitute site present value for age value. This is for the regeneration of Placeness, called Genius-loci based on historical context in Buyeo Gudeurae. This basic plan suggested a visitor center for promotion and management of the World Heritage site, historical towns represented by historic remains, and community facilities for locals. |
