The emotional background of Luis Barragan's architecture shows the harmony between traditional and environmental elements in Mexico and the modern European architecture surrounding which scientific, psychological, and philosophical controversies about walls and colors were triggered when he was at his best. The purpose of this research is to study walls and colors of architectural works created from the collision of endemic, traditional, and environmental cultures of Mexico and the modern civilization in Europe. This research is also aimed to understand, by introducing Lacan's Gaze Concept, how emotional substance which arouses traditional aestheticism, peace, and intimacy is created. The word 'emotional architecture' refers to the result from imagination in which keywords like modernity, tradition, nature, scale, temporality, religion, spirit of the age, and spirituality interact with each other and their combination is expressed through a gaze into walls and colors. In addition, through an approach of using Lacan's Gaze Concept, this research shows that walls and colors in Luis Barragan's architecture mean "return to nature," "temporal properties of tradition and nature," and "temporal directivity towards perfection." |
