This paper analyzes the impacts of building information modeling (BIM)-based design validation on carbon footprint reduction in architecture, engineering, and construction projects. For this, two BIM-based projects in South Korea were studied. Through BIM-based design validation, 381 and 136 design errors were detected and 108 and 21 rework were prevented in Case 1 and Case 2, respectively. As the results, 0.5% and 0.7% of total carbon footprint in the two projects were prevented by BIM-based design validation. |
