In a geothermal ventilation system investigated here which uses the earth's nearly constant underground temperature, outside air is drawn through a double pipe earth-to-air ground heat exchanger that is installed vertically in the ground to a depth of 5meters, which transfer the heat from or to the ground. Annual average temperature at 5 meters depth is almost same as the annual average outside air temperature on its location. Therefore this system is especially effective in Japan with four seasons. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of this system in San Diego where the climate is mild throughout the year, but has large temperature difference between day and night. |
