This research examines the therapeutic environment design elements and their implementations in the waiting spaces of three children's rehabilitation hospitals in Seoul. The research data is collected through literature reviews and hospital site studies focused on therapeutic environment characteristics and design elements for children and particularly, for children with physical disabilities. Therapeutic design elements such as finish materials, daylight/artificial lighting, furniture, colors/graphics, play spaces, and plants/natural views are reviewed and analyzed in the waiting spaces of the three hospitals. As a result, therapeutic design concerns for children with physical disabilities need more attention and improvement in terms of barrier-free accessibility and play space facility must be reinforced for disabled children and their therapeutic hospital experiences. |
