Seismic performance of a ten story reinforced concrete building is estimated using SAP2000. Performance based design method is the basis in the analysis where nonlinear static analysis called pushover method is combined with the seismic hazard to calculate expected performance of the building. A capacity curve as a result of the pushover analysis represents the relationship between base shear versus target displacement, and is essential to identify the two different behaviors of plastic hinges, force controlled and deformation controlled actions. The lateral displacement from the performance point revealed that the building was capable of sustaining a medium level of seismic load. It was also clear that the building behaved in the strong column-weak girder mechanism. The hinges formed in the girders are in dangerous level according to the performance category specified in ATC-40 and need to be strengthened. |
