This study aims to emphasize the possibility of communication by the medium of communal space and analyze the communal space of the elderly housing facilities. As the population of the elderly has increased very quickly and the elderly have been accustomed to life in cities, the significance of the urban elderly facilities has become increased. ‘Aging in Place’ is the concept that the elderly prefer to live at the place where they have lived so far. After defining the aspects of ‘Aging in Place’ for achieving the concept in urban elderly living facilities, deduced that having sense of community and socializing with outsides are important in many ways. Therefore, this study investigated cases of community space on six urban elderly hoousings in Japan and six housings in Seoul, Korea. Through this study, I found that Korean cases can be improved by taking the concept ‘Aging in place’ properly. Such efforts can enhance bonding, promote social inclusion. Therefore, I analyzed the community spaces of elderly living facilities with potential to promote the social inclusion of old people. |
