In the mid 18th century, the Industrial Revolution brought about several problems, such as a poor residential environment, the exploitation of workers, the lower quality of people¡¯s life, pollution and diseases. This study is conducted to investigate the change of modern housing durining the 20th century and to suggest a new direction for a contemporary housing environment based on the results of the investigation. The characteristrics of European housing is analyzed by looking into how superblock housing reflected the circumstances of Austria¡¯s Red Vienna. The architectural features of the Karl Marx Hof which was built during the Red Vienna, are outlined and analyzed. By analyzing, this study aims to provide useful information for resolving issues related to superblocks, which arebeing introducted to Korea. |
