As the five-day work week and well-being trend settles in Korea, the leisure culture is expanding and the camping population is rapidly increasing. However, safety facilities and management of camping sites, as shown from the Kanghwa glamping site fire, have shown many problems and require improvements at once. Therefore, through field studies and interviews with users and experts, this study focuses on extracting architectural implications for the development of safe and pleasant camping sites. The findings include that first, there is a lack of an architectural definition or any laws connected to glamping sites and an organized registration system or management guides because of unlicensed, small-scale and temporary glamping sites flooding the market. Second, fair number of glamping sites are run on private properties or unauthorized lands illegally and some were found to be doing serious damage to the landscape which require immediate attention. Third, the legal system regarding glamping sites needs to be reinforced urgently, and specific guidelines for camping sites with different characteristics, from a ¡®minimum standard¡¯ to a ¡®recommended standard¡¯, should be suggested. |
