Atypical design offers esthetic and symbolic effects to enhance architectural values. However the molds for atypical concrete members are made into one-off forms, so that they can't be recycled and take a lot of time and labor to make. To solve these issues, this study used a phase-change material (PCM) as a material for molds to produce atypical concrete. PCM is a substance that melts and solidifies at a certain temperature. To produce a freeform concrete segment (FCS), solid PCM mold was used which can be liquified by heat for recycling. But it is impossible to put it into place because there is no specific process of making PCM molds and producing FCS. For this reason this study aimed to develop a PCM-enabled atypical concrete segment production process. The PCM mold suggested by this study helps not only reduce time and labor to make atypical concretes, but also improve productivity by establishing a construction plan for effective deployment, production and installation of molds, cut costs through permanent recycling, and shorten the construction period by reducing the time for producing molds. |
