±âArchitectural design education in Korea has been developed according to a guideline (Student Performance Criteria/ SPC) of the accredited program ruled by KAAB. As we know, its architectural design education program in SPC was much influenced from NAAB, USA. However; this accredited program has uniformed the many universities of the architectural design education in Korea since 2002. Thinking that the essence of study in architecture from diversity of human society¡¯s demands and functions may can¡¯t not be a simple to uniformize the architectural design education. As a result of this standpoint, this exploratory case study aims at illuminating that the architectural design education should be changed to be different perspective not only respect of characteristics but also recognition of diversities to improve a goal of the architectural design education. To approach this problem issue, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture in USA is selected as a sample of case resource at illuminating as one of the unique educational institutions to analyze. The results of this case analysis are as follows;1) FLWSA¡¯s idea of architectural design education program has developed and based on their study moto ¡®Learning by Doing¡¯ from the architectural philosophy of F. L. Wright. 2) FLWSA has very unique educational management systems such as ¡®mentoring program & Portfolio review committee¡¯ which are functioned to advice and evaluate to the students in respecting their own unique rule. 3) To avoid conventional education ruled by NAAB, FLWSA has been established their own characteristic educational program called¡® Core Projects¡¯. That offers an unconventional experiences in the realm of diversity in architectural design education different from other typical universities. So, the result of this case study will be a reference to realize ¡®why we need to be changed from the uniform-education to the characteristic-education & diversity-education as well. |
