In this study, architectural language of Taniguchi Yoshio in D.T. Suzuki Museum is investigated for preparing data and design methods. Based on the results of this study, the applicability of the design methods to the contemporary art museum is suggested. The architectural language used in D.T. Suzuki Museum would be summarized as follows: First, exhibition of D.T. Suzuki Museum is not designed by materials of D.T. Suzuki but designed by spaces. Second, Museum is not designed to introduce to visitors but to let visitor consider of D.T. Suzuki's thought. Third, Taniguchi used Japanese housing pattern language to intend of Japanese Buddhist's philosophy. Forth, Taniguchi used architectural method to divide and connect making specific place and gallery passage. Finally, placeness in D.T. Suzuki Museum is represented with hiding huge mass, keeping green in contour and showing artcraft of Kanazawa. |
