This study considers the configuration method of the opening applied to the Monastery of La Tourette and defines its architectural significance. This study reveals what architectural devices have been presented at the opening in order to help the priests living there for seven years get immersed in the inner spiritual activities. In addition, it is conducted as a process to examine its relationship with the theoretical arguments of the architects. It analyzes the status of all the openings appeared in the building comprehensively and deducts the main configuration methods. As a result, the three configuration concepts are deducted and the meaning for each is interpreted respectively. Consequently, the opening acted as a principal agent setting the relationship between the outside and the inside and controlled tightly the aspect of recognition of the outside from the inside in a variety of ways. Therefore, it made their mind rest peacefully in the inner part and proposed the role of architecture that induced religious inspiration. It is hoped that the view on the opening in terms of the form and surface plan of modern architecture shall be re-examined through this study and also this study shall be an opportunity to provide a new perspective that can expand the width of architectural interpretation for Le Corbusier. |
