The relationship of design, performance on the domestic opera house has continuously informed the opera house's evolution since Seoul Arts Center in 1993. This study aims to describe the spatial layout, characteristics, program, auditorium, and stage of domestic five opera houses which are built or completed competition. In terms of the analyses and descriptions of opera houses, the results of them are compared to the recent built oversea opera house-Oslo, Copenhagen, Guangzhou, and Tokyo. Through the concepts of type and monument within the opera house and the city, the opera house is understood as the active agent in the exploration of the context of the city. The architectural monument in terms of both size and experience, opera house, thereby reengages society, allowing architects to address both the singularity of the object and the specificity of the site. In sum, the concepts and results of opera house transformed into the concrete architecture may serve as a valuable tool and method in understanding the current opera house in Korea. Moreover, it will suggest the potentiality and possibility to synthesize design, performance, and experience for actor, producer, and audience. |
