As the quality of life continues to improve in Korea, a greater number of people are paying more attention to their health. Following this rising trend, pedestrian passages and other similar public spaces are being designed to serve multiple purposes. This diversification in urban planning is able to lend itself to health promotion through many activities such as exercising, strolling, and resting. However, relevant regulations have yet to be prepared to authorize such multipurpose spaces. Due to geographical constraints, most apartment complexes in Busan have been developed near mountains. As a result, a majority of pedestrian passages there lie on a slope. This study was designed to examine and analyze pedestrian environment of hill side apartment complex, and explore measures to improve such areas. To this end, four measurements were developed to evaluate the pedestrian environment : safety, comfort, accessibility and placeness. The results were as follows. In safety, accessibility, and placeness, residents evaluated the pedestrian environment negatively while they evaluated it in comfort positively. |
