Jjimjilbang is a contemporary Korean bath building, which selectively combines pop-cultures, such as Karaoke, Cinema, In-door golf course, etc with the traditional Ondol flooring and the public bath. Although this building type has been formed in the late '90's, the sources of its cultural backgrounds are profoundly diverse spanning from ancient Rome to early modern Japan and they all seem working well together under the same roof within Jjimjilbang. This study aims to establish a structured way of designing Jjimjilbang, which reflects the dynamic aspects of modern-day Korean culture. |
