The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of cultural spaces from the perspective of everydayness. This article clarifies Henri Lefebvre's concept of everydayness and applies it as a framework for analysis. According to him, prevalence of everydayness affected the development of contemporary consumption spaces. The consumption space appeared in the process of privatization of space. Arcades and theme parks are its examples. The characteristic of these spaces is that they claim to be public spaces but have the strategy for private spaces in themselves. Museum also claims to be the public space but joins with consumption spaces. That reveals its limitations just as malls and theme parks do. This article asserts to pay attention to the creativity of ever ydayness as solution for authority and control over our lives. |
