This study is on Yu Gil-jun's thought about architecture and city. The Seoyugyeonmun (1895), written by Yu Gil-jun (1856-1914) is very well-known travel and theory book of the civilization party. This book was published with the help of Yukichi Fukuzawa (1835-1901), a famous Japanese reformist. And in fact, Seoyugyeonmun is strong influenced by Yukichi Fukuzawa's Seiyojijo (1870). To find out the view of architecture and city of Yu Gil-jun, this paper examines his book throughly with the comparison of Yukichi Fukuzawa's book. Therefore, we can conclude that Yu Gil-jun's thought about architecture and city is partly owing to his own experience under the strong influence of Yukichi Fukuzawa, and has a gap between private sphere and public sphere. |
