¿ä¾à2 In this paper, a new method to estimate vehicle weight is presented by using piezoelectric material embedded in the bridge bearings. A piezoelectric material can transfer mechanical energy into electrical energy. The bearing has been conceived by introducing adequately a piezoelectric material within conventional steel pot bearing. This piezoelectric material can be used to perform real time control of the passage of overloaded trucks by adopting built-in load measuring function. This study demonstrated that vehicle weight estimation is properly performed through numerical analysis when vehicle load on a bridge is measured by the bridge bearings.
