During Japanese occupation period, urban structure of each provincial city has changed. The current basic skeleton has been formed through modernization process since then. Especially, the downtown of Cheongju, a hub of inland areas maintains traditional structures of town and Eup Fortress, and its shapes have remained until now after Japanese urban plans were applied. The Dong(洞)'s boundaries which have been set in 1928 match with current administrative areas almost completely. Therefore, this paper tried to study the changing process of administrative areas within Cheongju's downtown in order to understand the urban space of present Cheongju clearly. This study examined Janpanese system was applied to Cheongju areas in 1937, and analyzed characteristics of the changing process of administrative areas after that time. |
