The accurate prediction of acoustic performance throughout the acoustic design process is extremely important. Computer simulation method has been widely adopted by acoustic practitioners and researchers because of its convenience in handling and time saving property. As have been revealed by many researches, the outcomes of a computer simulation are highly dependent on the accuracy of input data such as absorption coefficients and the exactness in geometrical modeling of boundary surfaces. Not much has been known about the modeling of audience area for the computer simulation, although the modeling of audience area, the largest absorptive object in a concert hall, is supposed to have a critical effect on the predicted results. The present work suggested an optimized modeling method which leads to accurate prediction of acoustic performance. Both computer simulation and scale model measurement were carried out for different configurations of audience area modeling and the results were compared and analyzed. |
