One of the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) funded research projects the authors are working on is to quantify energy saving potential when integrated cooling, heating, ventilation and lighting control algorithm is applied to a smart home. To investigate the aforementioned issue, the authors developed a simulation model as well as the integrated control of cooling and ventilation systems for a selected typical Korean apartment. Especially occupant behavior is known to be one of the most uncertain parameters which impact on simulation results. For this study, the authors used monitored occupancy pattern of 30 households for the control simulation. In the paper, it is elaborated whether integrated control significantly outperforms the conventional on-off control. It is shown that energy savings of control strategies are strongly influenced by occupant schedule. |
